During my international travels, I couldn't help but notice the special status of Indian teas among tea connoisseurs. They were highly regarded and in demand all over the world. However, despite being the second-largest tea producer in the world, India lacked a domestic specialty tea market until the late 1990s. This realization ignited a passion within us to address this deficiency, and it quickly evolved into providing India's discerning tea drinkers with the specialty teas they truly deserved.
In 1999, the Indo-Sri Lanka trade agreement opened doors for us to import and distribute a fine selection of Specialty Ceylon teas in India. This was a significant milestone in our journey, but little did we know what lay ahead. We soon realized by simply importing and distributing specialty tea wouldn't do justice to our world-renowned Indian teas from Assam, Darjeeling, and Nilgiris. We soon understood the need to set out on a mission to blend and curate our own specialty teas, and we were up for the challenge to accomplish it.
In 2002, we embarked on the exciting path of blending Indian teas and producing our own speciality teas. The following year, we proudly launched our private label, HighTea, primarily targeting the foodservice industry, including cafes, hotels, institutions, and corporations. But we didn't stop there. In 2011, we took a giant leap forward by commissioning our own integrated, state-of-the-art tea bag manufacturing and packaging plant. This bold move liberated us from dependence on third-party blenders and allowed us to have complete control over the quality and consistency of our teas.
Ever since our promising beginnings, HighTea has consistently delivered distinct cups of tea to the discerning palate, by using only 100% natural, premium quality teas, herbs, and spices with the strength of artful blending and exceptional taste. In line with our core values that align with our ethos and quality control, we were among the first in India to introduce 'Staple-less' tea bags way back in 1999. Since then, all our HighTea tea bags have been staple-free. We only use good quality, environmentally friendly, and sustainable packaging materials, which exemplifies our commitment to environmental stewardship, sustainability, and food safety.
